Our opinion
Behind this complicated name (FE stands for "Fan Edition") lies a slightly less expensive but no less interesting version of Samsung's flagship Tab S9 in terms of functionality.
This Tab S9 FE+ is very similar to the Tab S9 in terms of handling, with the device remaining in aluminum and the IP68 certification (guaranteeing water resistance to 1m) still in place. However, the dimensions (in terms of thickness) have increased slightly, as has the weight, although this is not a problem. One very good point is that Samsung's S Pen stylus is included, and once again proves to be very pleasant to use, even if certain functions are reserved for the premium version of the tablet. Matching the tablet's color, it attaches magnetically to the tablet. It's also worth noting that the Tab S9 keyboard, which also protects the tablet, is compatible with this version. Connectivity includes a micro-SD port for additional storage.
With a diagonal of 10.9 inches, this tablet's screen is generally of good quality. Unfortunately, the first compromise is the choice of LCD technology, which results in the loss of infinite contrast and a little afterglow, though nothing too annoying. The resolution of 1440 by 2304 pixels is sufficient for a good display sharpness, and brightness is of a very good level, adequate for almost all environments. Color fidelity isn't perfect either, but with a trip to the settings and natural mode, rendering proves satisfactory. We might have hoped for a higher refresh rate, as it peaks here at 90 Hz, but this remains respectable, even if the most advanced tablets go up to 120 Hz.
When it comes to power, Samsung hasn't skimped too much, and the Tab S9 FE handles the most common uses with ease, switching seamlessly or almost seamlessly from one application to another. Even when it comes to the gaming experience, this tablet comes through with flying colors and offers a good experience, despite a slight propensity to heat up, which can prove uncomfortable.
Even if this is not the primary use of a tablet, there are two photo sensors on this Samsung Tab S9 FE. The eight-megapixel back module can be used to troubleshoot or take a snapshot, and even if the rendering is hardly striking, it's still usable. Ambient darkness, on the other hand, tends to severely degrade the picture, but again, nothing too surprising. On the front, an ultra-wide-angle module takes care of business, even if you have to be careful to change the default mode, which doesn't take advantage of the 12 million pixels. One good point is that this small photo module is optimized for video capture and thus video conferencing.
Autonomy, despite a relatively modest battery, fares more than well, and the Tab S9 FE proves to have great endurance, passing the 22-hour mark without recharging. Recharging is also quite rapid with the appropriate charger, even if Samsung does not supply one.
