Our opinion
At first glance, this Galaxy Watch 7 doesn't seem to stand out from previous models, but Samsung has made a few additions to its connected watch that could make it even more popular.
As always with the Korean brand, the build quality is flawless. The all-aluminum case is perfectly finished, with discreet physical buttons and sensors that are imperceptible on the skin. The 1.3-inch screen is very good, sufficiently defined and above all bright enough not to be bothered in direct sunlight. And although it's small, the case has IP68 water-resistance certification, even if it's not advisable to dive too deep with this watch. The resin strap is easy to forget, and even though it's rather elegant, it's easy to change.
Samsung has pulled out all the stops in terms of hardware configuration for a smooth and pleasant user experience. The interface is well thought-out and allows you to switch from one screen to another without too much difficulty. Once you've got the hang of it, you can even control certain functions with simple gestures, which is sure to impress friends and family, as well as being able to answer the phone from your wrist. The operating system, Wear Os, lets you customize the appearance and easily add a whole host of dials. Notifications are perfectly usable. Small additions include the ability to pay by NFC with the watch, and to stream music stored on the Galaxy Watch 7 to a Bluetooth speaker. The downside of this software environment is that it is closed to all non-Android phones, for one thing, but also to non-Samsung phones for certain functions. Health indicators are also tracked via the Samsung Health app, for those who want comprehensive data on their health.
The Galaxy Watch 7 is packed with sensors to track physical performance. But the first disappointment is that the GPS is only moderately accurate, whether in the city or the countryside. Heart rate tracking, on the other hand, is really precise and relevant, with very few deviations from the precision of a chest strap-type tracker. Sleep tracking, with data support and artificial intelligence processing, is well done, even if it's sometimes difficult to assess the relevance of the data. There's also a whole range of daily health monitoring options, so you can always be objectively informed.
Autonomy is unfortunately a recurring weak point in connected watches, and this Galaxy Watch 7 is no exception. If not intense use, then at least use of all functions means a compulsory recharge after a day and a half. Samsung still has some progress to make on recharging, which takes far too long to be satisfactory: it takes an hour and a half to fill up.
