Our opinion
Samsung's flagship model has a new iteration every year, with the S22 following an already successful S21. The Korean brand does not intend to be left behind by the competition and further strengthens the performance of its top of the range.
This smartphone has the merit of not being too imposing and it remains both light and rather pleasant to handle. The finishes are perfect, the matte back does not take fingerprints and the waterproofing is there as evidenced by the IP68 certification. The photo module is perfectly integrated, and all the physical keys fall well under the fingers, and the fingerprint reader under the screen is very responsive and effective.
The 6.1-inch screen is, as always with the Korean manufacturer, of impeccable quality. Its very generous definition of 1080 by 2340 pixels is the guarantee of a beautiful display, its refresh rate goes up to 120Hz for a maximum of fluidity and the brightness allows a comfortable use in all bright environments. If the contrast is impeccable, it is necessary to pay attention to the reflections, and to pass in the adjustments to moderate the very sharp character of the colors, which can appear not very natural.
The Galaxy S22 relies on a new chip to operate, and if the performance in everyday use (multitasking without games) is quite correct, the gaming experience is much more disappointing. It is impossible to enjoy an optimal display quality, slowdowns occur frequently and in addition the smartphone has an annoying tendency to heat up a lot, and therefore to exhaust the battery faster. A real disappointment!
For the photo, it is a classic configuration that we find, with a sensor with 50 million pixels supported by a specialized in the ultra wide-angle and finally a last telephoto lens. The first one offers beautiful images but there is however a perceptible noise on the images and a little blur, which also worsens in the dark. If the rendering remains good, the Galaxy S22 does not do as well as the Google Pixel 6 for example. The ultra wide-angle mode, on the other hand, does well, with a small lack of sharpness but nothing too disturbing, and even a dark environment is not eliminatory. The defects are more present with the 3x zoom, which produces shots lacking in detail, and totally unusable when produced in a dark place. If the portrait mode is a success, especially in the measured clipping that it offers, there is to be criticized on the selfies, with electronic noise once again sensitive. The video capture is irreproachable.
Unfortunately, there is no fast charge on this new S22, and only the Ultra and + models benefit from this accelerated charge. The battery of this smartphone is a bit modest and the autonomy is affected, but it remains in good standards.
