Our opinion
As usual, Samsung declines its standard the Galaxy S21 in several models, which come to perfect the original model, more powerful and qualitative. This Galaxy S21+ is intended as a flagship of the Korean brand, and it is thought as such.
If it is bigger and heavier than its little brother, the S21+ is very similar to the latter, with the photo block a little prominent, but a harmonious mix between aluminum and plastic of beautiful workmanship for the shell. There is no possibility to add a micro-SD card, Samsung having decided to stick to the original capacity, but for the rest, the ergonomics is successful and the finishes are impeccable. The front panel is very elegant, with a well optimized screen.
As always with Samsung, the screen of this Galaxy S21+ is above reproach. With a rather elongated format and a generous diagonal of 6.7 inches, it is richly defined (2400 x 1080 pixels) and has a high refresh rate at 120Hz for optimal comfort. With a little trick in the settings, we can get a color rendering almost perfect, in fidelity as in temperature. Finally, the brightness can be adjusted regardless of the environment in which the smartphone is used.
The power is there and this Galaxy S21+ is never in trouble, for a multitasking use obviously, as for a gaming experience that is very pleasant, fluid and without graphic concessions.
The photo part with its three sensors is similar to that of the Galaxy S21. The main sensor has a maximum of 12 million pixels, and its rendering is of good quality, even if the edges of the image lack a little precision: for the rest, the brightness and colors are well rendered. The same is true in a low-light environment, but the lack of pixels pays off a little on the level of detail, which lags behind what one might expect. The 64 megapixel mode of this module goes hand in hand with a cropping of the image, but it is a success and flattering for the rendering, despite the overexposure that goes with it. An ultra wide angle module is also present, which however suffers from a distorted rendering on the ends of the image, but the colors and details are there: obviously, in the dark, this sensor loses its quality, as often. The zoom is obtained in a combined way with a 64 megapixel lens and an adapted focal length, but the result offered by this Galaxy S21+ is correct, if not as sharp as some competing models: at night, there is nothing to be gained. The front sensor, for selfies, gives good results with only 10 million pixels, and the portrait mode captures faces and important details without worrying. The video capture is done in the best possible conditions and with remarkable quality.
As far as autonomy is concerned, the on-board battery is not enough to make this smartphone very durable, and you'll have to think about recharging quite quickly. We can regret the absence of a powerful charger that would have allowed to start again quickly, but it takes more than an hour to recharge the Galaxy S21+.
