Our opinion
Apple continues to roll out its ultra-powerful smartphone, with this extended name. The iPhone 15 Pro Max has all the Apple brand's latest technologies in a single smartphone.
Still generously sized, the iPhone 15 Pro Max hardly seems to stand out from its predecessors at first glance. However, there's a real reduction in weight, thanks to the change of material and the new titanium introduced on the 15th version of the iPhone. There's also a little more rounding in the overall shape, as well as an optimized screen with more discreet edges. A new physical button makes its appearance, proving useful but could have been better exploited. In terms of connectors, the USB-c required by law makes its appearance and brings with it a host of new features. As for the rest, there's nothing to complain about: all the new technologies are there. The waterproofing is there, attested by IP68 certification.
Once again, Apple has taken care of the display, with a flawless 6.7-inch slab. Well-defined (1290 by 2796 pixels), with a refresh rate that can climb to 120 Hz for maximum fluidity and impeccable luminosity, this slab has it all. What's more, its color rendering is balanced and faithful. In short, Apple has once again pulled out all the stops when it comes to displays.
As always, Apple hasn't skimped on power, and this smartphone is always fluid, whatever the task at hand. Beware, however, of the smartphone's new materials, which conduct a little too much heat, which can be felt with the most demanding games.
With three highly sophisticated and complementary sensors, Apple has thought big for this iPhone 15 Pro Max. For starters, there's a 48-megapixel main module, which by default captures 24-megapixel shots. There's nothing to complain about in terms of image quality: detail is rich and sharp, and the camera handles exposure very well. Another very positive point is that the entire scene is homogeneous, even when you look at the edges of the photo. When the light is less bright, the choice is made to favor realism, and this again pays off with a quality shot, with well-controlled noise. The night mode, meanwhile, plays on micro-contrast, which changes the overall rendering a little, which is still very good. For the most expert photographers, it's possible to adjust the focal length of the main sensor.
The ultra-wide-angle module of this iPhone 15 Pro Max is once again very good, with images of good quality but with microcontrast that's a little too pronounced: beware, however, of digital noise that's a little too pronounced in dark environments. As for the x5 telephoto lens, Apple does a really good job of this, and the rendering is pleasing to the eye.
Portrait mode once again proves its worth, with almost flawless face detection and easy-to-apply blur to the rest of the scene. The selfies produced by the front-facing sensor are always impeccable, but it's when it comes to video capture that Apple impresses, having turned this iPhone 15 Pro Max into a quasi-professional device, with a plethora of options.
Apple has succeeded in giving this iPhone 15 Pro Max a very good battery life, so that you don't have to worry too much about the passage of time, and you don't have to go looking for a charger. On the other hand, recharging takes a long time, and is clearly less optimized than on other smartphones.
