Our opinion
The name of this variation of the 13th version of the iPhone is not misleading: Apple thinks big and puts all its knowledge in this smartphone whose only target is the high-end.
The difference in design is very small for users used to the Pro Max version of the iPhone 12. Same assumed lines, same very elegant finishes, same premium impression but this time with a greater thickness but especially an increased weight. Weighing 240 grams, the iPhone 13 Pro Max is clearly not a lightweight and it may take some time to get used to it before you feel completely comfortable with the smartphone. On the plus side, the notch on the front is reduced and "eats" a little less of the screen. At the back, the camera block is much more imposing and is quite massive. The rest of the ergonomics is not different with physical keys that always fall well under the fingers and always this Lightning port for charging, with always the absence of mini-jack port, which is not at all a surprise, however. It should be noted that headphones are provided and that the sound produced by speakers is very good.
For the screen, Apple offers a beautiful 6.7-inch diagonal slab, with a technology that allows the refresh rate to adapt and go up to 120 Hz. The fluidity, certainly superior, does not make a huge difference as Apple managed to get the most out of its previous slabs. As for color rendering, Apple remains true to its reputation for excellence and the display is accurate and precise. The brightness is in all points irreproachable and it is a pleasure.
In terms of power, this iPhone 13 Pro Max is powered by a new chip, still as powerful as ever, which offers a very high level user experience, thanks also to a hyper optimization from Apple. Games, demanding applications: nothing resists this smartphone!
We find the same photo configuration as on the iPhone 13 Pro, with three sensors that complement each other. The main one is used as a wide angle and for the vast majority of photos. If some smartphones show a more detailed rendering, it is clear that the choice of Apple to bet on a qualitative rendering is paid and is very pleasant for the user. The smartphone also does well in low light conditions, with well exposed shots and light. For the ultra wide angle, Apple made the same choice: exposure and fidelity in the rendering, even if it means sacrificing some details. As with the other module, the much shorter exposure time limits the risk of motion blur, a good point. For the zoom, we find a 3x module, which once again sacrifices some details to offer faithful shots, well balanced in their colors. At night, there is nothing to get out of it or almost, as often with zooms in poor light conditions. The front sensor provides decent selfies, but they don't stand out more than that. The portrait mode performs a good clipping, which remains subtle even on the finest things (hair, etc. ...). The video capture is excellent and the mode is really complete, with a maximum of modes to go far in the use, including a cinematic mode to manage the alternation of the focus on the faces in particular.
The battery of this iPhone is finally up to what we can expect and the device is enduring. On the other hand, the fast charge is not there and you'll have to be a little patient to fill it up, and especially to have a charger that goes well, this one not being provided.
