Our opinion
With this hybrid camera, Sony seems to be clearly targeting the new videographers and other bloggers, who need to sign beautiful sequences without necessarily weighing themselves down too much: the Japanese brand has made a few additions to make the difference.
This compact camera can be equipped with a wide range of lenses to meet the maximum number of different needs. However, the whole handling indicates Sony's efforts to position the ZV-E10 as an easy-to-use camera. A large handle, a reduced weight, the absence of optical viewfinder for a screen articulated on a ball joint or a single button to navigate in the menus, everything is simplified, even if the last point is a bit of a disservice to the ergonomics. If some choices are questionable, the automatic mode is successful and the video capture is fast and efficient, but the most experienced users will probably be a little disappointed by the simplified side of the ZV-E10. The connectivity is complete and the Wifi and Bluetooth allow to transfer files quickly. On the bad side, we must also note the memory card slot, which is inserted under the body, which is not very practical in use.
Beware of the rather average reactivity of the camera: Sony has made a body that takes its time before being usable, and whose ability to link the photos is rather modest. It is therefore sometimes necessary to wait a little before multiplying the shots. The burst mode is on the other hand completely up to the task. The autofocus in the dark is often a little difficult.
The rise in sensitivity is well managed by this ZV-E10, but beyond 1600 ISO, maximum 3200, the camera is a little struggling and the shots degrade a little. The details of the photos are well marked, and the smoothing is well managed and allows to obtain very beautiful images. In video, its core target. The camera stands out. If there is first of all a very satisfactory automatic mode, it is in the complementary services that the Sony ZV-E10 distinguishes itself. We can easily manage the exposure, the aperture or the reduction of defects on the faces, all in a very simple and fast way, and as a bonus the "product presentation" mode, very relevant for the Youtubers for example. The video quality is very good, but we would have liked a 4K capture at more than 30 frames per second. It would have been nice to have a stabilization other than digital and a mediocre rolling shutter, that is to say, the management of the quality of the sequences when we make movements. Very good point on the other hand on the autofocus, very powerful and relevant in video! Finally, the sound recording is of good quality, but despite Sony's efforts, nothing can replace an external microphone.
