Our opinion
Apple reigns supreme among smartwatch manufacturers, and with this third iteration of its SE models, it offers a reasonable price point to enter its software universe, all with reasonable concessions for good value for money.
The first pleasant surprise is undoubtedly its relatively reasonable size, at a time when so many smartwatches are opting for imposing sizes, without anything else to distinguish them from the classic Apple watch. While the screen could have benefited from thinner edges, it certainly holds its own when compared to more expensive models. Admittedly, the watch is less readable in bright sunlight, but the 394 x 324 pixel resolution is sharp enough not to strain the eyes too much. While the Apple Watch SE 3 is water-resistant, be careful not to overdo it and don't risk diving with it, for example. The glass is also advertised as resistant, but it is not sapphire crystal. The final positive point is the lightness of this smartwatch, which you can easily forget you're wearing.
The Apple Watch SE 3 is easy to use, with a touch-sensitive crown and a responsive screen that allows you to quickly switch between apps. The wrist movement to return to the home screen will quickly become indispensable! The small speaker, in addition to allowing you to take phone calls via a smartphone connection, provides audio guidance for running, for example. On the other hand, while the diversity of the software ecosystem is still impressive, you need three separate apps to access all the data recorded by the watch, between general settings, sports, and health.
Although it lacks some of the features found on Apple's high-end watches (for example, it doesn't have an electrocardiogram), the Watch SE 3 still offers a wide range of features, particularly for sleep and menstrual cycle tracking. For sports, there's plenty to do, with a very effective GPS, and the heart rate monitor is also well designed and allows you to accurately assess your performance.
The battery life of the Apple Watch SE 3 is once again disappointing, lasting around 30 hours before needing to be recharged, even with fairly light use, such as GPS or sports activities. Charging takes just over an hour, but a short charge will restore some battery life.
