Our opinion
Sony has difficulty offering an attractive top-of-the-range product, especially in the face of increasingly fierce competition. The Xperia 10 Plus testifies to the Japanese brand's ambition to offer a top-of-the-range product that is gifted in terms of photography.
The look of this smartphone is a little different. It is indeed very long with its screen that makes it look almost like a remote control, with also the edges of the slab a little too marked. This has the disadvantage of complicating the handling and the use of the physical keys is disrupted by their placement. The fingerprint reader is also on the edge here, and it is a little slow to do its job. For the rest, everything is there, but this Xperia 10 Plus lacks the waterproofness to match its high quality finish level.
The promise of this Sony smartphone rests largely in its video screen, but it is quite disappointing despite its interesting 21:9 format. There are already colours, which are not rendered in a very beautiful way and which are not very faithful. If the contrast is correct and the definition offers good comfort, the brightness is recessed, not when the light is there (no worries) but in the dark, the slab is a little aggressive for the eyes.
For the sound, we are happy to find a mini-jack plug, of good quality overall but which lacks a little power and precision in its crosstalk. The only loudspeaker is accurate in the absence of powerful sound.
The Xperia 10 Plus uses a slightly old processor, which pays for just the right performance, but it is not uncommon to observe and experience a few small slowdowns, and to require a few graphic concessions to play in good conditions. In addition, this smartphone has a strong tendency to heat up significantly.
For the photo, there are two photo sensors, one classic and another that supports 2x zoom. The main one does not give too disappointing results when the light is strong, but there are some small exposure problems at times. On the other hand, there is what is needed in detail and the colours are correctly rendered. In low light, the pictures are unfortunately very dull and the smoothing is far too pronounced. The zoom module suffers from the same concerns, with dull, over-smoothed images and no pleasant sharpness. The same is true when the light goes down. The Xperia 10 Plus does not shine either because of its front-panel module, too affected by noise, or because of its video module, which has difficulty succeeding in filming in 4K.
The autonomy is not a strong point of this Xperia 10 Plus, which is painful due to its small battery. The smartphone holds up with difficulty for a day and a half, or even less as soon as there is a little intensive use.
