Folding smartphones are now a must-have at the top end of the smartphone market. Samsung offers the Z Fold, which folds at the center to provide a very large screen, and boasts features worthy of the best devices. This sixth version has plenty to offer.
The design of this sixth version of the Galaxy Z Fold has evolved only slightly, but has been refined and lightened. We notice that the smartphone folds completely thanks to its new hinge, limiting dust intrusion, validated by an IP48 certification that proves a little waterproofing and impermeability to small particles. The few grams less, as well as the contained dimensions, testify to the great care Samsung has taken with this device. This is also evident in the discreet folding of the screen. In terms of connectivity and technology, it's all there, or almost: wifi7, which is currently being rolled out, is not included. Stylus compatibility, on the other hand, is well and truly present.
The internal screen of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 measures 7.6 inches diagonally, with a resolution of 1856 by 2160 pixels for a perfectly fine display, and the adaptive refresh rate ensures constant fluidity, which is also restful for the eyes. Brightness is high enough for use in sunny environments, for example, even if reflections are quite pronounced. By choosing the natural color mode, you can also enjoy a very precise and faithful rendering. The generous external screen - 6.3” diagonal - meets the same quality standards, being both bright and precise.
The Galaxy Z Fold 6 is a powerful device, powered by a latest-generation processor to deliver a pleasant user experience, especially when multitasking, which is made all the more enjoyable by the dual-screen display. The dual-screen format makes for a surprisingly smooth gaming experience, whatever the level of detail selected for games.
The photo section is complete, with three lenses: a telephoto lens with x3 magnification, an ultra-wide-angle lens and a wide-angle main module. The latter boasts 50 million pixels, and proves to be a very good performer, with details well reproduced throughout the scene, and colors better managed than usual for Samsung, as they are a little more realistic, although we do regret a slight loss of quality at the edges of the photo. In the dark, beware of pronounced digital noise, despite a fairly natural rendering overall, with details and colors well managed. The ultra-wide-angle module relies on smoothing to enhance the quality of shots, and this works quite well in dark environments. Finally, as long as light is present, the zoom module is particularly successful, with contrast, faithful colors and well-rendered contours. For selfies, there's a high-performance sensor on the outer screen, but the sensor on the double inner screen is just average, to be reserved for a video call, for example. Portrait mode, on the other hand, is very powerful and precise. When it comes to video capture, it's possible to achieve good quality with the main sensors, enough to make lovely vacation films, for example.
The Korean brand has succeeded with its autonomy, which increases on this Galaxy Z Fold 6 with an identical battery. This smartphone lasts more than a day without faltering, and even longer when only the cover screen is used. Beware, however, that recharging remains slow, as Samsung has not yet decided to offer fast charging on this new smartphone.
