Every year, Samsung redefines its range of smartphones, with its Galaxy S, which will give larger or more powerful versions. This 25th iteration, the S25, is aimed at the top end of the market, and is positioned as the flagship model for the Korean manufacturer.
The design of this new model is hardly distinguishable from its predecessor S24, but it has the good taste to be rather contained in its dimensions and weight. Its screen has very fine edges, and its coating is solid, while the rear is made of a material that doesn't pick up fingerprints too easily, and the integration of the photo modules is successful. Overall ergonomics are good, with a responsive fingerprint reader. The IP68 waterproofing standard is up to scratch, and last but not least, all the connectors are up to date with the latest standards.
The Samsung Galaxy S25's screen meets the brand's quality standards. The 6.2" diagonal slab is well-defined, with 1080 by 2340 pixels for a fine display, and the adaptive refresh rate, which can go up to 120 Hz, makes for an appreciable fluidity. The brightness of this smartphone is very impressive, and using it in bright light will not pose any major problems. When unpacked, the smartphone's colors are a little vivid, but a quick trip through the settings results in an almost perfectly faithful colorimetric rendering.
In terms of power, the on-board chip and the memory that comes with it enable use without any slowdown, even for users who like to open lots of applications. And when it comes to gaming, there's no need to worry: this S25 is up to the task, offering a top-notch gaming experience.
For photography, Samsung has opted for a three-sensor configuration, on paper identical to that of the Galaxy S24. The main module combines pixels to offer twelve-megapixel shots, and it's with software processing that Samsung improves, for a sharp, detailed and realistic rendering, without fail. However, the Galaxy S25 suffers from noise on images produced in low-light environments. The ultra-wide-angle module is also very convincing, albeit with a few imperfectly rendered textures, but for the rest, it's a great success, with beautiful homogeneity across the entire scene. When light is lacking, rendering degrades, but remains usable. The telephoto module, on the other hand, lags a little behind, due to less-than-optimal software processing, which also produces obvious errors in dark scenes.
The front-facing sensor still produces beautiful, natural selfies. The portrait mode is highly effective, and video capture is also a success, with effective stabilization.
Despite its reduced battery capacity, this Galaxy S24 is particularly enduring thanks to its energy management, made possible by its new processor, and you can forget about its charger for almost two days without worry. It's a pity, however, that Samsung has still not made any progress on recharging, which is still rather slow.
