Our opinion
Samsung is thus giving a giant version (or close to it) of its flagship model, the Galaxy S24, opting for a more generous screen for those looking for an XL display, without cutting back on power or functionality.
In terms of design, Samsung has hardly innovated on this Galaxy S24 +, which remains imposing and difficult for some to use with one hand, with the added bonus of weighing in at around 200 grams. Nonetheless, it's very well finished, with nicely chiselled edges and optimized screen space. Its solidity is proven, and the presence of IP68 waterproof certification is, as always, a very positive point. Connections and on-board technologies are all up to date, with the exception of Wifi 7, which is absent here but has no real impact at present.
The 6.7-inch diagonal screen is very generous. Definition is on the mark, rising to 3120 by 1440 pixels to offer a very high level of definition, synonymous with user comfort. The refresh rate can go from 1 to 120Hz, making long sessions a pleasure. Brightness, too, is very good, adapting seamlessly to any light conditions. Color rendering is a little vivid, but by opting for the natural mode in the settings, colors turn out to be very faithful, just a little cool.
Samsung has reverted to a factory-produced hardware configuration for this S24+, a choice that ultimately pays off. Multitasking is handled perfectly and smoothly, and the gaming experience is also highly satisfying, even if there is a noticeable tendency to overheat.
The Galaxy S24 + features a classic photo setup, with three complementary photo sensors: wide-angle, ultra-wide-angle and telephoto. The main module captures photos with 12 million pixels per combination, producing quality images. Exposure is well managed, sharpness is high and textures are well rendered. Beware, however, of the slightly too vivid colors and noise that are sometimes perceptible, but nothing too disturbing. In the dark, the S24+ does rather well and doesn't really degrade rendering, with only electronic noise making itself felt. With this sensor, it is possible to go up to 50 million pixels, an option especially useful for cropping photos. The ultra-wide-angle module performs very well, with good homogeneity and low distortion. Noise really makes itself felt when light conditions get complicated. As for the zoom, if the user doesn't go beyond x3 magnification, the rendering is very good, but after that the magnification is managed digitally, with a strong impact on quality. These shortcomings are accentuated in dark environments. The front module is still excellent, with a good level of detail and a portrait mode that does very well. Video capture is in 8K, with excellent fluidity and editing options aided by artificial intelligence.
In terms of autonomy, the S24 + is a disappointment, as it doesn't do as well as the S23 +, and runs out of power after a long day, which is not what you'd expect from such an imposing smartphone. You'll also have to make do with the absence of really fast recharging, and even with an optimum charger, you'll have to wait more than an hour to fill up on energy.
