Our opinion
The FE (for Fan Edition) range of Samsung smartphones aims to reconcile a slightly lower price with strong capabilities in one smartphone, and the Galaxy S24 is no exception.
In terms of design and dimensions, it's pretty hard to tell the difference with a Galaxy S24+, even if this FE version is a hair bigger, but also heavier, which is something to take into account. The finish is meticulous, with fine materials and an IP68 certification guaranteeing water resistance. Connections are very complete, and even if Wifi 7 is missing, the Galaxy S24 FE offers everything a smartphone needs.
This smartphone's screen is well made. With its generous 6.7-inch diagonal, the 2340-by-1080-pixel resolution is just right for reading text in good conditions. Brightness is well managed and allows use in good conditions, even if reflections in a very bright place are quite marked. Contrast is perfect, and with a little tweaking of the settings, color fidelity is assured. It's a pity, however, that the screen's adaptive refresh rate adjustment is missing.
The hardware configuration of this Samsung Galaxy S24 FE has nothing to be ashamed of, ensuring smooth operation of all applications, and the smartphone always remains responsive when called upon. When it comes to gaming, it does just as well, even if it sometimes feels a little warm during a long gaming session.
Samsung offers three complementary photo sensors. The main 50-megapixel wide-angle sensor does very well, with good overall detail and sharpness. The decision to opt for natural rendering in complicated lighting conditions pays off. By using the full 50 million pixels, we can afford better cropping. The ultra-wide-angle module, with its 48 million pixels, delivers shots that are admittedly a little lacking in sharpness, but which offer well-marked detail and an absence of heavy distortion at the edges. This, of course, gets worse in the dark. Poorly defined, the telephoto lens is a general disappointment. For the rest, portrait mode is effective and selfies lack just a little detail. As for video capture, it's very well done.
Even though the battery isn't huge, the Galaxy S24 FE's autonomy fares rather well, with a day's use without having to worry about recharging. On the other hand, as is unfortunately always the case with Samsung, you'll need to allow plenty of time for recharging, as rapid recharging is still not available.
