Our opinion
OnePlus has deviated a bit from its initial goal and no longer hesitates to offer expensive smartphones with what it takes to be able to compete with the biggest brands. The OnePlus 8 thus has everything it takes to establish itself as a high-end device.
The design is flawless on this smartphone, hyper elegant and with obvious care. The display is slightly curved for a superb grip, the front panel is beautifully optimized, and the glass back cover is above suspicion. The physical keys are conveniently located, and if it's difficult to use it with one hand, the OnePlus 8 is optimized as much as possible. The lack of a micro-SD port and the waterproofness, which would have been welcome, is to be regretted. On the other hand, the support of the 5G is a good surprise.
The screen of this OnePlus 8, with a diagonal of 6.55 inches, is huge or not far away. It is also, and above all, of remarkable quality. It is very generously defined, and has a high refresh rate, which is very pleasant for viewing text over a long period of time. Its color rendering is very flattering, among the very good students, and there is nothing to say about the temperature of the display. Also, the brightness is ideal for all environments, and as the contrast is infinite, it is a very nice panel to look at on the OnePlus 8.
For the sound, there is unfortunately no mini-jack port, but for the rest the smartphone does well.
In terms of power, the OnePlus 8 is very responsive and above all very comfortable to manage multitasking, with an absolutely constant fluidity. There's nothing to complain about when it comes to gaming either, and gamers will be able to play their favourite games without fear of losing speed.
OnePlus has chosen to equip the Model 8 with three photo sensors. The first one, the one that is the most used, may have 48 million pixels, but it is nevertheless disappointing, the fault lies in a level of details that can be clearly improved, because of an immoderate smoothing, surprising because it occurs even in good light conditions. At night, the same flaws are found, and even worsen, for a disappointing rendering, with a little noise that ends up polluting the scene. The wide-angle module is doing quite well comparatively, with the same problems but still readable shots, even though these lenses are often in trouble: this analysis remains valid in the dark, even if the OnePlus 8 is logically in difficulty in this exercise. For the selfies, nothing to fear, the sensor in front is powerful and manages the background well in particular. Video capture is ensured without too many worries, with 4K that remains fluid.
The battery is very generous on this OnePlus, which in fact offers superb performance in terms of autonomy, reaching the two days of autonomy without too many sacrifices on the uses.
