Our opinion
OnePlus is attempting to release a slightly more affordable version of its OnePlus 15, with a few compromises but strong intentions that remain, particularly in terms of the screen and battery, for a (nearly) high-end smartphone.
The OnePlus 15R won't stand out for its design, as it's very classic, even if it is a fairly imposing and slightly heavy smartphone. However, it is very well finished, with beautiful materials that give every assurance of solidity, and meets several standards (IP68, IP69, and IP69K, which promise water resistance, even when the water is very hot!). In terms of new features, a physical button provides access to shortcuts to various functions.
With a 6.83-inch diagonal screen and a resolution of up to 2800 x 1272 pixels, the OnePlus 15R offers excellent visual comfort, especially as its OLED technology guarantees sharp contrast. You can also opt for a high refresh rate for greater fluidity. Another plus point is that the color rendering of this screen is very accurate and therefore easy on the eyes. Finally, the brightness allows you to cope with any type of environment, from the darkest to the brightest.
While the OnePlus 15R doesn't have the latest processor, it's not far off, and the smoothness is virtually constant, even when the smartphone is under heavy use. As for games, there are no major graphical compromises to be made in order to enjoy them in good conditions: a success!
In terms of photography, OnePlus has not called on Hasselblad and offers only two modules, wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle. With its 50 million pixels, the main sensor produces beautiful images in daylight, with realistic colors and sharp details, even if the edges of the image are a little disappointing. Darkness degrades the overall rendering slightly, due to a little too much smoothing, which results in less precise details. The ultra-wide-angle module on this OnePlus 15R is clearly disappointing, as its low resolution (8 megapixels) is not enough to deliver accurate results in all conditions.
The front sensor performs well for selfies, although the details could be improved. When it comes to video recording, there's nothing to complain about: the smartphone films in 4K and offers stabilization.
OnePlus goes even further than with its OnePlus 15 and offers a slightly more generous battery on this OnePlus 15R, enough for long gaming sessions without having to worry about the remaining battery level.
