Our opinion
After long striving for a balance between price and performance, OnePlus seems to be aiming for the high end of the market with the OnePlus 15, a smartphone that competes with the flagship models of its rivals, offering many qualities that set it apart in a fiercely competitive market.
The design of the OnePlus 15 is very classic, with just enough curves to make it attractive, if not original. The aluminum chassis is a success, resisting fingerprints and offering every guarantee of solidity. The integration of the camera block is successful, again without being very original, and the classic physical buttons are complemented by a button that can be customized as desired. All the latest technologies are supported, and IP68/69 certification guarantees waterproofing and even steam resistance.
Generously sized (6.78 inches diagonally), this screen also has many qualities. In addition to its high resolution (2772 x 1272 pixels), it has an adaptive refresh rate to ensure a smooth experience, which can even go up to 160 Hz. The brightness is generous enough that you don't have to worry about using the OnePlus 15 in a very bright environment. Finally, the color rendering is optimal, making it unnecessary to adjust the settings.
There's nothing to complain about when it comes to everyday use of the OnePlus 15, which responds instantly to every command thanks to its high-end hardware configuration and switches from one app to another without slowing down. While the smartphone doesn't struggle too much when it comes to gaming, we feel that it could do a little better, but it is hampered by a certain tendency to overheat.
With three complementary 50-megapixel photo sensors, OnePlus has thought big for this smartphone. The main wide-angle module performs brilliantly and produces beautiful images, with perhaps a little blurring and overly vivid colors, but you really have to look closely to notice it. It's a shame that the image quality deteriorates in poor lighting conditions, with heavy smoothing and a loss of detail. The 50 megapixels work wonders on the ultra-wide-angle lens, with high-contrast photos and small details clearly visible. Of course, shooting with this module in the dark results in a noticeable deterioration in image quality. Finally, unsurprisingly, the telephoto lens also struggles in dark environments, but there's nothing to complain about when the light is right.
While the portrait mode can tend to blur the background too much, the selfies taken with the OnePlus 15 are rich in detail and well defined. Video capture is of very high quality and offers a plethora of options, including a highly effective “audio focus” feature.
Thanks to new technology, OnePlus has managed to fit a very generous battery into this smartphone, allowing it to last a very long time without recharging, without affecting the thickness of the device. With a state-of-the-art charger, it's even possible to fully recharge the battery in about an hour.
