Our opinion
Google was able to impose its Pixel range very quickly to make smartphones recognized for their reliability but also their camera always of very good quality. This version 6 intends to perpetuate this success, which must pass this time by a 100% Google hardware, including the processor.
The design of this new version innovates a little but in fact takes from old models with a "bar" at the back that hosts the photo part, all with a little relief but without creating imbalance once installed. If this rear panel is resistant with Gorilla Glass 6, it also takes fingerprints very well but remains sober in its design. The smartphone has also grown in size and we are now a little far from the previous models, more compact, and also lighter. The edges of the screen are quite marked, without being annoying, and the fingerprint reader under the slab works perfectly. There is little connectivity, no micro-SD or mini-Jack port, but waterproofing and 5G are well present. There are however USB-c headphones provided, and the two speakers offer a more than decent sound.
The screen of this Pixel 6 measures 6.4 inches diagonally, which is already an imposing size. With its elongated format (19.5:9) and its resolution of 2340 by 1080 pixels, comfort is good, but the brightness in very bright environments or on a very sunny day is a bit low, but the Pixel 6 manages this criterion well enough to remain comfortable if darkness prevails. With a little trick in the settings, it is possible to enjoy a color rendering of very good quality, even if there are models that do better.
The power of this Google 6 is impressive, and we feel all the work of optimization of Google which has made its own chip and a huge work of optimization so that everything runs in the best conditions of fluidity, whether they are games or any application, all in a flood of details.
For the photo, Google was expected to turn and does not disappoint. On the Pixel 6, we find a wide-angle sensor of 50 million pixels, and a second sensor of 12 million for the ultra-wide angle. The first makes a very nice impression, without frills in the settings, but the details are there, the rendering is faithful and flattering, just a little red. But it is at night that the smartphone impresses, because the shots lose almost no detail, no subtlety, there is almost no impressive smoothing. The ultra wide-angle sensor disappoints a little in comparison, with a daytime rendering in the right norm, but a night rendering a little behind expectations, without it being bad far from it. The portrait mode is very good, with a quality clipping. Nothing to complain about photos in selfies mode, the 8 million pixels are enough for a good rendering. The video mode ensures a quality capture, which benefits from the optical stabilization.
The autonomy of this Pixel 6 is not quite up to what we can expect, and a day and a half, which is not really impressive. There is no charger block sold with the smartphone, and even with a model other than the one from Google but performing well, the charge is very long.
