With this Pro Max version of its iPhone 17, Apple unveils its smartphone with XXL capabilities and power, and the promises for the most demanding users are real.
The design of this iPhone 17 Pro Max is particularly imposing, making it a heavy and thick device. However, by opting for rounded edges, Apple has managed to make it easy to hold, even if the huge screen will prevent those with small hands from using this smartphone with ease. The choice of materials, aluminum (instead of the usual titanium) and highly resistant glass, is a success, and the finish is impeccable. What is less so is the camera block, which is prominent and detracts from the balance of the phone when laid flat. The rest is classic, with the physical buttons arranged as usual and connectivity standards that are up to date and even ready for the (near) future.
As always with Apple, the screen of this iPhone 17 Pro Max is excellently crafted, which goes hand in hand with its very generous size (6.9 inches diagonally!). With highly accurate color rendering in terms of both temperature and balance, this smartphone's display is obviously very sharp (1320 x 2868 pixels resolution), with impeccable fluidity and a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. Another obvious plus is the very high brightness, which allows you to use this iPhone in very bright conditions without too much trouble.
Power is obviously a feature of this high-end iPhone, which can handle any use without ever slowing down. The latest games will run with maximum detail and perfect fluidity.
For photos, there is a configuration with three complementary sensors to meet all needs. The main wide-angle module has 48 megapixels (but images are displayed in 24 million pixels, by combination), and gives very good results, with marked textures, subtle details, and subtle color rendering. Be careful in low light, however, as it affects the quality of the shots a little, with less pleasing colors, even if the overall result is still very acceptable. For the ultra-wide-angle mode, there's almost nothing to complain about in the photos provided, which are almost comparable to the main sensor, but unfortunately the drop in brightness significantly degrades the shots. The telephoto module, on the other hand, is a real success with its 48 megapixels: detail, sharpness, everything is there, at least when the photos benefit from a bright scene.
On the front, the built-in sensor takes beautiful selfies, tactfully enhanced by artificial intelligence. Video capture, always a strong point for Apple, continues this tradition of excellence on the iPhone 17 Pro Max, which offers a wide range of settings.
Heavier than its predecessor, the iPhone 17 Pro Max benefits from a more generous battery, which offers very comfortable battery life, lasting up to two days before needing to be recharged. Unfortunately, charging takes a while, so you'll need to be patient.
