Our opinion
The biggest fans of the Apple brand, who are also the most demanding, know that the Pro version of the iPhone 17 will be a smartphone at the cutting edge of technology and power. This powerhouse delivers on its promises, but at a price.
The first change in terms of design is the use of aluminum, a common but proven material, with high-quality glass for the rest. Apple hasn't changed the rest of the iPhone 17 Pro's design too much from the previous model, except for a few millimeters here and there. However, the camera block on the back is prominent, and the lower part of the front is made entirely of glass, revealing the smartphone's inner workings—an original but also attractive choice. Water-resistant (IP68 waterproof rating) and equipped with all the latest technology to stay connected, the iPhone 17 Pro is set to remain relevant for several years before becoming obsolete.
There's nothing new on the display front, which is a good thing, because this iPhone 17 Pro has it all. Optimal fluidity with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, perfect brightness in all circumstances with very well-managed reflections, top-notch color rendering, and high definition (1206 x 2622 pixels) for a perfectly sharp display: Apple's standards have once again been met.
Unsurprisingly, this Apple iPhone 17 Pro is a powerhouse and can handle all uses without ever faltering, not only thanks to its latest-generation chip (in its optimal version), but also thanks to high-level software optimization. While it does tend to heat up, the smartphone also cools down fairly quickly.
Apple has chosen to equip this smartphone with three sensors. The main wide-angle sensor has 48 megapixels (although the combined images are displayed in 24 million pixels) and is of very high quality, with beautiful textures, fine details, and accurately rendered colors. This beautiful overall picture deteriorates slightly when the light decreases, with colors becoming less flattering, even if the overall result remains very acceptable. The ultra-wide-angle module performs about as well in favorable lighting conditions, with just a little less sharpness than the main sensor. On the other hand, in low light, the shots are very unflattering, which is disappointing. The telephoto module, also with 48 million pixels and 4x magnification, is much more satisfying. The images are beautifully detailed and sharp, and a pleasure to look at, although this is less true in poor lighting conditions.
There's nothing to complain about when it comes to the selfies produced by the iPhone 17 Pro, with a high-quality sensor and just the right amount of artificial intelligence to deliver consistently optimal photos with very accurate rendering. Video capture is also very high quality, with settings that will be of great interest to savvy videographers.
With a maximum battery life of almost 26 hours, the iPhone 17 Pro is durable and doesn't need to be constantly recharged. However, charging could have been slightly faster: nothing to be ashamed of, but the competition sometimes does better.
