Our opinion
Every year, there is the same excitement surrounding the launch of the new iPhone, and this 17th iteration is no exception, even though it has to compete with Pro versions that are certainly attractive but much more expensive.
The design of this iPhone 17 is hardly surprising, but it remains as convincing as ever. With dimensions very similar to those of the iPhone 16, metal and glass are the main materials used, with a back that doesn't show fingerprints too much and gives every assurance of solidity. The IP68 rating confirms its water resistance. Otherwise, the buttons are in the same place for a comfortable grip. The connectivity technologies are all up to the latest standards.
With a 6.3-inch diagonal and OLED technology, the iPhone 17's screen is a complete success. First of all, it (finally) has an adaptive refresh rate between 1 and 120 Hz, perfect brightness regardless of the environment in which the smartphone is used, and it is calibrated to perfection, rendering colors with great precision. Another good point is that the glass protection is very strong and also significantly reduces glare.
As always, the iPhone 17 has impressive power that allows it to handle all uses without ever faltering, including the latest games. This is the result of both top-of-the-line hardware and very successful optimization on Apple's part.
For photos, Apple uses two separate modules, both with 48 million pixels: so no telephoto lens. For the main sensor, which provides 24-megapixel shots (through pixel combination), the rendering is excellent with clearly visible details, clean edges, and sharpness that makes the photos very pleasing. Even in the dark, the photos remain flattering with just the right amount of detail and color, despite a slight noticeable noise. The ultra-wide-angle module is a huge step forward, and this iPhone 17 is much better than the previous version, especially in terms of small contrasts that help the overall quality. This does decrease when the light is low, but it's nothing to be ashamed of, far from it!
The square selfie module allows you to take great photos and offers remarkable quality with its 18 megapixels, even in dark environments. Video capture is excellent, and the voice options in particular are much more than just gadgets.
As usual, Apple didn't need to put a big battery in this iPhone 17 to give it good battery life, which lasts a day and a half without much stress for the user. On the plus side, the user won't have to wait too long to recharge thanks to a fairly fast charging time.
