Our opinion
After the much-appreciated iPhone 15 Pro, here's a new version of Apple's top-of-the-range terminal, bringing a few more assets to a smartphone that already had plenty to offer.
Design-wise, there's little or no change from the previous iteration, with the same successful blend of titanium for the frame and glass for the rest, giving a nice premium feel. The slightly larger screen does very little to alter the smartphone's dimensions, thanks to a noticeable reduction in the screen's edges. While still weighing in at under 200 grams, the iPhone 16 Pro is a little heavy, but this won't really hinder the overall grip. On the other hand, the addition of a physical button dedicated to photography means little gain in day-to-day use, and hardly changes habits. When it comes to connectivity, this is obviously a flawless device, with all the latest standards.
The iPhone 16 Pro's 6.3-inch screen continues Apple's reputation for display excellence. The resolution, 1206 by 2622 pixels, guarantees a fine display, and the adaptive refresh rate between 1 and 120 Hz guarantees fluidity synonymous with comfort. Although it is impossible to set the screen parameters, it is calibrated to perfection, and color rendering is very faithful, both in balance and temperature. The screen's brightness is perfect in all circumstances, enabling the smartphone to adapt to both very bright (beware of a few sensitive reflections) and very dark environments.
In terms of performance, Apple has once again thought big, making the iPhone 16 Pro a super-powerful smartphone. It features the latest iteration of their processor, which Apple has also optimized to perfection. There's not a single use that puts this iPhone in difficulty, and fluidity is constant, whether with the most demanding applications or the latest games. One very good point is that the smartphone hardly heats up at all, even in full action.
The photo configuration is generous and in line with what you'd expect from a top-of-the-range smartphone. The 48-megapixel main module is of excellent quality, capturing images rich in detail, sharpness and contrast, although it should be noted that the edges of the image can suffer from a little blurring. The rendering remains natural and very satisfactory when the light in the scene decreases. The ultra-wide-angle module also boasts 48 megapixels, and this is a real bonus in terms of quality, with photos featuring beautiful sharpness and color, a real improvement on the iPhone 15 Pro. This progress can also be measured with the same lens, but in more difficult light conditions. The telephoto lens on this iPhone 16 Pro is the same as on the previous model, with the same quality of detail and accurate colors, and even slightly improved contrasts.
For selfies, the 12-megapixel sensor is as effective as ever, and the portrait mode works wonders too, with even modes to achieve exactly the desired rendering. For video capture, the ability to edit at 120 frames per second in 4K makes for beautiful slow-motion shots. It's in sound recording, however, that the iPhone 16 Pro really shines, with a highly successful elimination of extraneous noise that's downright bluffing in its relevance.
Apple had promised a significant improvement in battery life, and this iPhone 16 Pro delivers, with remarkable endurance. Even the most demanding, repeated use doesn't cause the device to fall below a day's use, and it's easy to go beyond a day and a half. It's a shame, however, that really fast charging isn't available: you need to be a little patient to fill up.
