Our opinion
As it has done every year for the past few models, Apple is releasing a Plus version of its iconic iPhone, which is particularly suited to those looking for a larger display surface.
Larger and therefore heavier than the iPhone 16, this Plus version is nonetheless extremely comfortable to use, and as always offers a very high level of finish, all in glass and aluminum. We still find the customizable “Action” button that appeared on version 15 of the iPhone, but also a button dedicated to photography that is not very instinctive at first, but can become so. The layout of the photo lenses has also changed, but nothing very surprising either. Finally, there's a complete and very up-to-date range of connectors, and what's more, some nice colors for the camera!
The screen is a little larger than on the iPhone 16, with a diagonal of 6.7 inches and a good resolution (1290 by 2796 pixels) for good display finesse and visual comfort. However, it would have benefited from a refresh rate higher than 60 Hz, which could have been much higher and therefore more in line with the competition in this price range. Brightness, on the other hand, is excellent and suitable for all light environments, and color rendering is very faithful to reality.
The iPhone 16 Plus's processor, while not Apple's latest, is nonetheless extremely powerful, ensuring constant fluidity in all situations, thanks to the Apple company's fine optimization. Even the most recent games don't give this smartphone a hard time. It remains to be seen how the smartphone will perform with Apple Intelligence.
For photography, we find the dual-lens configuration of the iPhone 16. The wide-angle module is as powerful as ever, with 48 million pixels and a rendering rich in detail, sharpness and colors that remain realistic. What's more, the rendering hardly deteriorates as the light fades, and remains very acceptable. As for the ultra-wide-angle lens, its twelve million pixels and generous aperture are enough to produce beautiful shots, albeit with a slight downside in terms of the slightly aggressive image processing and resulting noise. We're pleased to note, however, that rendering does not deteriorate excessively in the dark. For selfies, the optics remain unchanged and deliver good results, and the portrait mode is once again a great success. Video capture, as always with the iPhone, is excellent, and the function for “cleaning up” the sound of a sequence is amazingly effective.
While recharging still lacks speed, the iPhone 16 Plus's autonomy is a great success, benefiting from Apple's great progress. A day and a half is a milestone that's easy to reach without having to worry about refuelling.
