Our opinion
Every year, the release of a new iPhone is a small event, despite the often slight changes from one iteration to the next. The iPhone 15 does, however, feature some interesting changes that keep Apple's device among the best performers on the market.
The changes from version 14 are not immediately obvious. The weight is unchanged too, and the dimensions hardly at all, remaining bearable for small hands. It's in the shapes, and the appearance of rounded edges, that we appreciate the slight change, which is better for the grip. Another positive point is that the glass on the back is elegant and, above all, does not pick up fingerprints, as well as covering the elegant colors of the shells. On the other hand, there are no surprises when it comes to the physical keys, whose layout has not changed. The presence of a USB-C port for recharging and transferring files was expected, but this transfer is largely limited in terms of speed, and there's no gain over a Lightning port from before. As for the front panel, it's neat and notch-free.
The screen, reasonably sized by today's standards (6.1" diagonal), uses Oled technology and is well made. Its only flaw is its refresh rate, which remains capped at 60 Hz, whereas the competition offers more, which brings a real gain in fluidity. As for the rest, there's nothing to complain about: it's well-defined (1179 by 2556 pixels), the brightness is very good, which compensates for a certain propensity to reflections, and the contrast is infinite. What's more, it's perfectly calibrated for a rendering that's both faithful and natural. Apple thus remains true to its high-end standards for this screen.
The iPhone 15 is richly endowed in terms of power, and it's virtually never caught out, as it's equipped with an excellent chip coupled with high-performance graphics for games, all of which benefit from Apple's software optimization. On the other hand, the device does have a tendency to heat up when in use, which can be a little annoying.
When it comes to photography, this iPhone is classic but effective, relying on a duo of sensors. The main, wide-angle sensor goes up to 48 million pixels, but by default captures with 24 million pixels. Photo quality is quite remarkable, with well-marked details and good exposure, not to mention natural colors. However, rendering quality drops slightly when the light in the scene is lower, but this is not really a problem. In the absence of an optical zoom, Apple offers a digital zoom that, on the whole, proves to be quite convincing. The ultra-wide-angle module struggles a little more, and details are really less pronounced, while low light only accentuates the image's shortcomings. For the rest, this iPhone 15 is still very good at video, with numerous settings, selfies are still flattering with a good front-facing sensor, and the portrait mode is precise and effective.
The iPhone's battery life doesn't shine, and you'll have to be careful not to exceed one day's use to avoid running out of power. On the other hand, Apple's decision not to allow fast recharging remains completely incomprehensible.
