Our opinion
Like every time, a new iPhone is always a small event and this iPhone 14 is once again very expected. Apple has the heavy task to make its flagship device evolve without moving too far from what made it successful.
In terms of design, Apple continues to remain conservative and does not change the design compared to the version 13. Unfortunately, the iPhone 14 still has a prominent notch, but its volume and dimensions are still quite adequate and do not make it a heavy or cumbersome device, with quite satisfactory ergonomics. Once again, the waterproofing is there, even if we advise against prolonged swimming: at least, a quick immersion will not make the iPhone 14 unusable. If the use of an eSIM is possible, the nano-SIM port is still there... but until when at Apple? Another thing that has long since disappeared is a Jack port, but the speakers still have a very nice sound quality!
Apple didn't change the screen of this new iPhone, but as it is well made, it was the right choice. Not too big (6.1 inches diagonally), it is unfortunately afflicted with marked edges and a prominent notch, but for the rest nothing to complain about. Its adapted resolution (2532 by 1170 pixels) is not accompanied by a refresh rate higher than 60 Hz, which however brings a very pleasant additional fluidity. For the rest, the contrast is perfect, the brightness is always perfect and the rendering of colors, without any necessary user adjustments, is extremely faithful.
In terms of power, Apple has not skimped once again, with an excellent processor coupled with a very nice optimization. In fact, this gives an optimal fluidity in all uses, from the most classic to the most demanding through games last generation. The iPhone 14 gets out of every situation without any worries.
The photos provided by the main sensor of this iPhone 14 are very well done, as they are realistic and rich in details, even if some competing models do better. In an environment poor in light, Apple limits the damage and allows very readable shots. In ultra wide-angle mode, the Apple brand still scores points by keeping very nice details, which unfortunately tend to decrease when the light is missing. The front sensor shows real progress and offers a nice fidelity, which accommodates well the details including for the portrait mode. The choice of naturalness pays off here. The video capture is remarkable in every way, with beautiful effects that allow you to play with the depth of field, for spectacular effects. The stabilization that this iPhone 14 offers is finally totally bluffing.
The iPhone 14 validates once again Apple's progress in terms of autonomy, and this model does a little better than the previous generation, not requiring recharging before a big day of use, all thanks to a nice optimization from Apple.
